Probly is Out. Get It!
A climbing app built for home walls.
After building (and rebuilding and reseting!) two climbing walls at my house and more versions of a climbing wall app than I can count, I'm excited to announce that Probly is now live in the App Store.
Why Another Climbing App?
If you have a home wall you know how it goes. You set problems, your'e psyched for a few weeks. You try sharing routes with others. Then the wall gets stale. Problems get forgotten. The you loose momentum.
You try to fix it. Maybe you just start a three-ring binder with route descriptions, or a shared photo album. Maybe you even try one of the existing climbing apps—the ones built for home and commercial gyms with thousands of users and walls you can search.
But none of them quite fit. They're either too complicated, too expensive, or missing the one feature you actually need. You should be able to add holds to your wall without loosing everything (or paying an app just to reset your wall).
I built Probly because I wanted something different.
What Makes Probly Different?
Probly is designed specifically for home wall owners. Not gyms. Just you, your wall, and the people you invite to climb on it.
Built for How Home Walls Actually Work
Quick Problem Entry
Hit the add button. Tap the holds. Add a grade and a name. Done. If it takes more than 30 seconds to log a problem, you won't do it consistently. Probly is fast.
Your Wall Changes (So Does Probly)
I don’t know about your wall, but mine change. You move and add new holds, reset sections, add volumes. Probly lets you upload new wall images while keeping all your old routes intact. Your wall's history is preserved, not erased.
Private Wall Communities
Your wall isn't a public gym. Probly respects that. When you create a wall, you add who you want. They see your problems, add theirs (if you allow), and stay connected through a private activity feed. No strangers. No public profiles. Just your people.
Actually Affordable
The free version lets you climb on and join as many walls as you want, additionally you can manage one wall and add up to 10 problems to see if you like it. If you want to use it for all your problems or have multiple walls (lucky you), a Probly subscription is just $1/month or $10/year.
What's Next?
This is version 1.0 (technically 1.0.8, but who’s counting). It does the core things well: track problems, manage your crew, handle wall changes, keep everyone engaged.
But there's more coming:
Better project tracking
More customization options (custom grading scales?)
Features I haven't thought of yet (that's where you come in)
Try It Out
If you have a home wall, whether it's a full training setup or a small woody in the garage, give Probly a shot. It's free to try. Just you, your wall, and a better way to track your climbing.
One More Thing
If you've been following along, you know this project has been a testing ground for me, not just for building products, but for building something that can actually stick around.
I'm committed to keeping Probly alive and improving it based on real feedback from real climbers. So if you try it out and have thoughts good, bad, or "why doesn't it do this one thing?" let me know.
You can leave feedback, submit bugs, request features and more here.
